Abigail and Sixto’s wedding day is one that I think back on often. The weather and greenery were fully alive in Houston for their spring wedding. Everything was warm and unhurried from the moment the day started. There was this really beautiful energy to it that I didn’t want to rush past. I wanted to cherish it. As a Houston wedding photographer, I’ve been a part of a lot of wedding days, but the ones that stay with me are the ones where the couple is so genuinely present with each other that documenting them feels less like work and more like just witnessing the moments unfold. This was one of those days, and I’m honored that I get to share it with you all.

I think the word luxury gets attached to weddings in a way that can feel a little misleading. It tends to make you think of photos of elaborate florals and grand venues and perfectly styled tablescapes. While those things can absolutely be part of a beautiful wedding day, they’re not really what makes a gallery feel elevated. What actually makes a luxury wedding feel luxurious to photograph is intention. The way a couple has thought about their day, the time they’ve protected for portraits, the vendors they’ve chosen who genuinely love what they do, the guests who show up fully present and ready to celebrate. Those are the things that show up in photos in a way that no amount of budget can manufacture.
For couples investing in luxury wedding photography in Houston, the most important question isn’t what your venue looks like. It’s whether you’ve given your photographer the space and the time to actually capture your day the way it deserves to be documented.

Ten years from now, the thing couples pull out and show people isn’t the centerpiece or the place card design. It’s the portrait of the two of them together in the middle of the day when it was just them soaking in everything from their special day. The ceremony shot where one of them is trying not to cry and failing completely. Or the quiet in between moment that nobody planned for, but everyone felt.
Prioritizing bride and groom portrait time is one of the most valuable decisions you can make when planning a luxury wedding. I always recommend giving your photographer at least 30-45 minutes for couple portraits. That time is where the most intimate and meaningful images come from. They also go by so much faster than couples expect. Build it into your timeline intentionally. I personally love to capture couples in the afternoon or at sunset; it’s my favorite and offers the most romantic lighting!

There’s something about spring in Houston that makes it one of my favorite seasons for weddings. The greens are so rich, the lighting is always dreamy, and it’s not too hot yet. For a luxury wedding specifically, I love the spring because you’re able to enjoy the day without the stress of the heat, sweating off your makeup, or dealing with much weather.
I shot a handful of photos from Abigail and Sixto’s day on film. The spring light was my favorite throughout the day. Film and spring is an unbeatable combo that’s hard to describe, but really easy to feel when you look at the photos (see below)! If you’re planning a luxury wedding, it’s worth looking into film photographers that offer it.

There are moments of a luxury wedding that I love to document most, and it’s those photos that couples are always most surprised by when they see their gallery. The wedding party laughing between portraits. The quiet moments between a bride and her bridesmaids before she walks down the aisle. The way a groom looks at his new wife when he thinks nobody is watching.
These are the moments that documentary wedding photography was made for. They happen at every single wedding regardless of the budget or the venue or the florals. What makes them show up in a luxury gallery is having a photographer who is paying close attention and knows when to stay quiet and just let things unfold. That’s the kind of Houston photographer I try to be on every wedding day I’m trusted with.
Abigail and Sixto’s day was full of moments like this, and their gallery reflects that in a way I love to look back on.

Nobody really prepares you for how fast it goes. You spend months thinking about this one day, and it moves so quickly that it can feel like you’re watching it happen from a distance if you’re not careful. The couples who walk away feeling like they were fully present almost always made a decision at some point to let the day be what it was going to be instead of trying to manage it into perfection.
The details matter, and I know how much work goes into them. But on the day itself, something is always going to go differently than planned. What you actually have control over is whether you’re present with the person you’re marrying when it does. That’s what shows up in photos. Abigail and Sixto planned their day so well. We had plenty of time to move through all the special moments — moments with her family, the wedding party, and the parts they wanted documented the most.
