Luke and Alexa have been together since middle school, which honestly just makes this whole session even sweeter. They chose the Dallas Arboretum for their fall engagement photos, and I absolutely loved every second of it. The gardens were so beautiful, the lighting was so perfect, and these two were just so easy and fun to be around. And their second location was somewhere they actually go together all the time, which added this really sweet layer of meaning to the whole day that you can just feel in the photos!
Why the Dallas Arboretum is Such a Good Spot for Fall Engagement Photos in Dallas
If you’re a Dallas couple (or a couple wanting to travel!) and trying to figure out where to do your engagement session, the Dallas Arboretum should seriously be on your list! The variety alone makes it so worth it. You’ve got the gardens, the seasonal decor, the bridges, the river running throughout; all of it gives you so many different photo spots without ever having to leave!
It’s also just a really beautiful place to spend a couple of hours together. For Luke and Alexa, it felt natural because they already love being there, and that comfort showed up in every single shot. When couples choose a location they actually connect with, the session just flows so much more easily. I’ve also noticed that it’s really nice to have a place you can wander around because it eases the nerves when you’re on the other side of the camera!
Fall Engagement Photos in Dallas Don’t Have to Be Dark and Moody
This may be an uncommon opinion, but fall photos don’t always have to be right in the middle of fall, or dark and moody! So much fall engagement content you’ll find on Pinterest leans really moody, sometimes colorful with the leaves, and if that’s your vibe, that’s totally okay! But if you love bright, warm, and fun and you’ve been scrolling thinking fall photography just isn’t for you, that’s not true at all. Not to mention, Dallas is still super warm into the fall months, and sometimes it’s easier to get them done earlier rather than waiting for fall to hit, depending on your wedding timeline.
Luke and Alexa’s session is a really good example of what fall engagement photos in Dallas can look like when you lean into the warmth and brightness of the season instead of the fall trees and darker colors. Fall is genuinely one of the most beautiful times of year to shoot, and you get to decide what kind of story you want it to tell!
Film Photography Makes Fall Engagement Sessions Feel So Dreamy
I love to shoot on film, and fall is honestly one of my favorite times of year to do it! There’s something about this season that just works so well with film, and you can always feel it when you see the photos. Everything looks a little warmer, a little softer, and it just has this really timeless and nostalgic feel!
If you’ve been curious about film photography for your engagement session, I highly recommend adding it if you can! Film is usually offered as an add-on to a digital session, so you still get your full gallery of digital photos, and the film shots are a separate set of photos that have that distinct warm and soft look to them! Fall is such a good time to try it if you’ve been on the fence because the season and the medium just work really well together!
The Second Location That Made This Session Extra Special
One of my favorite things about Luke and Alexa’s session was their second location. It’s somewhere they actually go together, which sounds simple, but it makes such a huge difference in how a session feels. When you’re somewhere that means something to you, you’re not performing for the camera; you’re just being yourselves in a place you love, and it shows so naturally throughout the whole gallery!
If you’re planning your engagement session and you’re trying to figure out locations, I always encourage couples to think about places that are actually part of their story. Not just somewhere that looks good on Instagram, but somewhere that feels like you! Like going to where you had your first date, your favorite beach, a favorite place to go like a record store, ice cream shop, coffee shop, etc.! The photos will be so much more meaningful that way! Tips for Planning Your Fall Engagement Photos in Dallas
A few things worth knowing if you’re thinking about fall engagement photos in Dallas: book early because fall is one of the most popular times of year to shoot, especially September through November. If you’re hoping for peak fall color at the Dallas Arboretum specifically, late October through early November tends to be the sweet spot!

And give yourself more time than you think you need! The Dallas Arboretum is big, and there are so many good spots throughout the property. A session with breathing room always feels better than one where you’re rushing between locations.
