The florals alone could have stopped you in your tracks at this wedding. I’m honestly still thinking about the details! Paria and John’s Persian wedding in Houston at Boxwood Manor was the kind of day that was literally unlike any other wedding! It was the kind that takes a while to fully sink in after you leave. The traditions were meaningful, the details were stunning, and the reception had an energy that nobody was ready to walk away from. As a Houston documentary wedding photographer, days like this are exactly why I do what I do!

I learned that Persian weddings are layered in a way that makes them genuinely exciting to capture. There’s the Sofreh Aghd, a ceremonial spread filled with symbolic items. Each one represents a blessing for the couple’s life together. Honey for sweetness, candles for light, gold coins for prosperity, and a mirror so the couple sees themselves and each other clearly. Every element on that table means something, and it shows in the way families gather around it.
For this wedding, the ceremony had that feeling of something real being passed down. There were so many traditions that I had never seen before that were so amazing to witness. As a Houston documentary wedding photographer, that kind of authenticity is exactly what makes for photos that actually last forever!

Paria’s florals by Laced with Grace and Royal Peyvand were honestly some of the most incredible I’ve seen at any Houston wedding. They popped against the clean white backdrop of Boxwood Manor, and the scale of them matched the scale of the day perfectly. Rich, full, and literally everywhere you looked.
Florals in Persian wedding culture are a really big deal, and you could feel that in how intentional every arrangement was. When flowers are chosen at that level of care, they shape the entire feeling of the day, not just the photos. It was so cool to be a part of such a unique celebration!

If you’ve never seen the Raghseh Chaghoo, also known as the Persian knife dance, it’s one of those traditions you have to witness in person. Before the couple can cut the cake, they have to earn the knife. A family member or friend takes the knife and starts dancing, and the groom has to offer money to get it back. The catch is that the dancer keeps passing it to someone else, so it just keeps going!
I loved that their guests were completely locked in from start to finish. It’s one of those moments that documentary wedding photography was made for because it’s totally unscripted and so full of life.

The little details from this wedding get me every time! Paria’s dress was the last one of its kind, which made it an immediate yes the moment she found it. A dress that won’t exist again, worn on a day that won’t exist again. That’s the kind of thing that adds to the story that goes way beyond what any photo can fully capture, but it’s worth knowing when you’re looking at the images. This small detail is literally the definition of timeless.

Boxwood Manor is such a great venue for a wedding like this. The 11,000 square foot manor with its chandeliers and clean neutral interiors gave Paria and John a canvas that their vision completely transformed. By the time the reception was going, the room felt like theirs entirely.
The energy just kept building all night. The guests were on the dance floor, flower petals were being tossed everywhere, and everybody was just having a blast! John drove them away in her dad’s car, which was honestly such a sweet and perfect ending to a day!

“Kate, you were amazing to work with, and Paria and I couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. You managed to capture everything so perfectly, and we are so incredibly grateful for you and your passion for photography. Thank you again, and I know we are going to be working with you again soon for anniversary photos down the road!”
That kind of message means everything to me!!
